:: About NSCA :.

National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) is the leading research organization in the fitness industry. NSCA does extensive research and offers specialized conferences with other industry leaders and research experts to share knowledge and develop the excercise physiology industry. NSCA's unique group of over 28,000 professionals receive invitations to write articles in professional publications and are often sought out as speakers at industry conferences. NSCA is currently the largest health and fitness association in the World.

:: Our CSCS and NSCA-CPT certifications :.

Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS) are NSCA - certified professionals who apply scientific knowledge to train athletes for the primary goal of improving athletic performance. CSCS certification requires in-depth knowledge and skills to design and implement effective strength and conditioning programs for athletes in a team setting. Since 1993, CSCS has been the only strength training and conditioning certification to be nationally accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).

With a pass rate of 57%, NSCA - Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT) exam is considered to be the most difficult personal trainer examination in the industry to pass. Also nationally accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), NSCA-CPT certification sets the standard as the most well-respected personal trainer certification through both national and international recognition.

:: Frequent questions :.

Do you serve special clients??
Yes, being Certified Personal Trainers we are qualified to train clients with cardiovascular and respiratory conditions (hypertension, COPD, asthma) as well as clients with orthopedic injury and rehabilitation concerns. Being competitive athletes, we are also skilled in designing linear and non-linear resistance training, speed & agility, and explosive strength plyometric programs for competitive athletes.

Do you train with me every day??
Not necessarily; we envision our professional services as educational. For most clients, there is no need to train with a personal trainer on every workout. Using a personal trainer should be limited to changes in program design, new excercise selection and instruction, and to client-specific testing. We meet with our intermediate and experienced clients for an hour every 2-3 weeks, beginning clients benefit from weekly or bi-weekly instruction.

Can I call you if I have questions??
Yes, we offer free, unlimited email and telephone consulting to all of our clients. All current clients are welcome to call or email us with any excercise and/or nutrition related questions; email or call as often as you like - it is always free.

Do you offer a free consultation??
Yes, the initial consultation is always free. This consists of an evaluation on trainer-client compatibility, a discussion on short- and long-term goals, and an assessment of excercise readiness level. The initial consultation takes approximately 15-20 minutes, and can be done either in-person or on the phone.

Where can you train me??
We can train you in the health club that you currently have membership in. If you do not have a current membership, we can find a suitable health club for you, and train there together. We can also train with you in any public and/or private athletic facility, including your home. We are available for new clients in CHarlotte, NC and across the greater central North Carolina area.

How long is a training session??
A training session is usually a full hour of solid training. This does not include warm up and cool down periods. Clients usually warm up and cool down on their own for about 15 minutes before and after the training session. All training sessions are planned on an individual basis.

Do I need to sign a contract??
No, you don't have to. However, there are substantial savings offered through signing a contract. For example, a ten session contract offers $100 savings in comparison to the cost of individual training sessions. All clients are required to sign a liablity waiver prior to their first training session.

Can I pay as I go??
Yes, you can make payments before individual training sessions. However, all 5 and 10 session contracts require full payment up front in order to receive the discount. Contact us for specific retainer-fee options on longer contracts.

What payment types do you accept??
We accept personal and business checks, as well as Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express credit cards and debit cards.

How long is my contract valid??
Your contract is valid until all of the training sessions have been conducted. The scheduling is up to you. We can train together every day, once a week, or even once a month if you want to.

Do you have liability insurance??
Yes. We carry comprehensive liability insurance up to $2,000,000 per client.

Do you offer consulting??
Yes, a training session can also consist of a full hour of detailed consulting on a specific excercise physiology or nutritional topic. Consulting can be done in-person or in a teleconference or videoconference setting.

What if I Need to re-schedule??
We prefer a 48 hour cancellation policy. If you need to reschedule an appointment, please let us know by 48 hours before your appointment so we can schedule that time for another client.

Can I buy your services as a gift??
Yes, absolutely.

:: 2007 Philadelphia Marathon :.

Philadelphia Marathon

Following the Virginia Beach Rock'n'Roll Half Marathon, we will run our first full marathon, the Philadelphia Marathon in November. We were considering several different races for our first full marathon, and had narrowed the races down to Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC, Toronto Waterfront Marathon, and Philadelphia Marathon.

Our original plan was to run in Washington, but we never expected tens of thousands of registrations to sell out in just three weeks. Also, the Toronto Marathon has a five hour limit (which should be ok for us), but since we've never ran full race before we decided to go and run the Philadelphia race instead.

Philadelphia Marathon has an outstanding reputation as a fast race, and they have a safe seven hour limit for the event. Runner's World Magazine selected the Philadelphia Marathon as "The Best Place to Run a Boston Qualifier" in their January 2007 issue. The Philadelphia course is fast and flat, with the highest elevation level at just 100 feet.

:: 2007 Rock'n'Roll Half Marathon :.

Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon

Our second 2007 race was the Rock'n'Roll Half Marathon on 09/02/2007 in Virginia Beach, VA. The running time of 1hr 54 minutes (8:45 pace with 6.9 mph average) was well below the 2 hour goal, and prepared us well for the upcoming race in Philadelphia.
